June 5 - World Environment Day

  World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on June 5 to encourage environmental awareness and environmental protection.  According to the United Nations, "the celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises, and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment." This Year's Theme Theme for 2021 is 'ecosystem restoration' and tthis year's WED will be hosted by Pakistan. This World Environment Day will kick off the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea. First organized in 1970 to promote ecology. Raise awareness of the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution. United Nations calls it by “International Mother Earth Day" .

The Great Indian Thirst https://www.ifc.org/wps/wcm/connect/ With the onset of summers, the worrysome thing in my locality is whether our locality's well would be able to give us water for the three cruel hot months ahead...?? By the way we (the people in my locality) are not the only ones who go through the same thought process every summers. As per NITI Aayog report of 2018 stated : That nearly 600 million or nearly half of India's population, almost half of India's population faces extreme water crisis. 75% of rural households doesn't have piped, potable water . Those households rely on sources which can have serious implications on human health. 70% of our sources are contaminated. Major rivers are dying due to insane amount of pollution in them. Groundwater table is depleting at a rapid pace and India is World's largest extractor of Ground water accounting for almost 25% . World Water Day- March 22

History March 22 was formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janerio.  In the same year, during the month of December, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution wherein it declared March 22nd as World Day for Water. This year's theme : Valuing Water The above theme helps recognize the crucial role a healthy ecosystem has to play, so that it can maintain enough water supply with no report of shortage anywhere in the world.
